hey there! 👋 i’m lizz (also known on the internet as crescentfool
). welcome to my little corner of the internet, the garden of stars! yay!!! so glad you’re here 🎉
if you don’t know who i am… don’t worry! i have the perfect video (15 seconds long) to describe my perpetual state of mind:
seriously though, you can catch glimpses of what i’m like on other parts of the internet, which you can find on my carrd: https://crescentfool.carrd.co/
what is this?
this is my digital garden + blog (made with the help of quartz!). given the nature of the format, this site will always be a perpetual work in progress.
here, i like to document what i’ve learned and experienced (or things that i just think are neat!). some of these are akin to a full-fledged blog post, while others are just a bullet point list of notes.
as i learn new things, my notes will grow alongside me! feel free to check back on those to see if there’s anything new i’ve learned since the first time i published the note.
what should i read?
you can find the notes that i’ve taken in the navigation bar!
- on desktop, that’s the left sidebar!
- on mobile, click the hamburger menu!
these notes are sorted into categories based on the type of content in them. some of these even have tags for similar subjects!
if you’re looking for something specific, you can use the search feature as well (CTRL + K)
.
given the format, i expect that i will accumulate a LOT of notes over time… so with that in mind, i highly recommend reading whatever catches your interest!
why did you make this?
this website was born from my desire to have a place where i could easily share my knowledge with other people!
prior to making this site, i used social media, discord servers, and google docs as a way of sharing information. thinking about it, a lot of the reason why i found these options appealing was because it was convenient. with built-in text formatting, i could focus on writing what i had to say, and then sharing it to an audience (if applicable).
however, prioritizing convenience comes with a cost: longevity and control over how this information is used and shared.
in the past few years (it is 2025 as i am writing this), there have been a lot of harmful policies and practices introduced to major social media. many people have (understandably) migrated away from platforms that no longer serve their best interest. it’s incredibly saddening to me to see what the internet has become.
THAT SAID! there is still something that can be done, and that’s to host your own site! and that’s exactly what i did! 🥳 i don’t know about you, but i personally find comfort in the fact that i can just repackage these files and reupload them elsewhere if all goes to shit.
why quartz?
quartz was recommended to me by my long-time friend laine! she was looking into markdown file → static site generators, and since we both used obsidian, she felt that this would be up my alley.
i originally waffled on whether or not i wanted to use this because i thought to myself, “i know basic HTML and CSS! i could totally just format my own blog and fully customize it, why would i need quartz?”
WELL ABOUT THAT. i have crippling perfectionism, and that alone would defeat the purpose of me making a blog. would it be fun to learn the intricacies of CSS to format my blog nicely? yeah, sure! but the whole point of me having a blog. is to write and note things down. and quartz makes it easier to focus on that part (and for any dynamic aspects like tags…) 😂
knowing that writing things was more important than the formatting, i ended up consulting this written tutorial by nicole van der hoeven on how to install quartz. it was super helpful to me (the original quartz documentation skipped a lot of steps that made it hard for me to understand). and i managed to do this in a day 😎
ANYWAYS that’s all from me! thanks for taking a look at my garden of stars! go read some pages and expand your realm of knowledge!
