a list of some of my favorite brushes, and some resources for finding new assets!

⚠ IMPORTANT NOTE: my software of choice is clip studio paint! while some brushes i am sharing are available to use in multiple programs (photoshop brushes are .abr and can be read by both clip studio paint and procreate), some of these are exclusive to CSP (usually on the asset store, OR noted as .sut).

all-time favorites

these are brushes that i use in most of my artworks, i consider them to be a pivotal part of creating my signature look!

momo storybook set (CSP)

I LOVE the texture of these brushes, they’re great for a very traditional look! i originally learned of them through noctilin, who recommended the brush in this post.

i like to use momo chalky to lay down flats, and momo doodler and momo sprinkle to add additional texture. momo and cream is my least used brush of the four, but i still find uses for it!

pufuu’s splatoon brush pack (procreate, CSP)

this one is funny to me because the original brush set was made for procreate by pufuu, as part of a video tutorial on how to create drawings with the splatoon art style.

here’s a few places where you can download the brushes:

of this brush set, my favorites are:

  • splat brush line pen - great for linework! this is where the crunchy edges of my art tend to come from.
  • splat brush regular - great for blocking in big shapes.
  • splat texture DX - great for applying gradients and fades of color! it has a nice look to it.

i tend to use the splat brush line pen in conjunction with the ice cream tool (a great tool for filling in flats).

if you don’t want to download the brushes but still like the look of the splat brush line pen, you can probably get a comparable look by changing your brush to these settings listed by eela!

THE ICE CREAM TOOL (CSP)

ARE YOU: SICK OF FILLING IN FLATS MANUALLY, AND HAVE DECENTLY CLEAN LINE ART? THIS IS FOR YOU!!!

literal time saver. cannot recommend this enough.

Graininess Highlights (CSP)

DOWNLOAD LINK: https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1859789

costs 10 CLIPPY, keep an eye out for this whenever there’s CSP log-in bonuses! this is basically an airbrush that has noise particles/grain at the edges. i like using this both as a soft light source, and an eraser to soften up shadows. similarly to the momo storybook set, i discovered this brush through noctilin’s brush recommendation post.

other notable brushes i like

i’ll come back to this later šŸ˜Ž

probably will note

  • SU cream pencil
  • YAM gpen
  • and maybe some others that i can’t remember at the top of my hand

other places to find brushes

while i may not have used all of these in my own works, these have been recommended by other people, and i thought it would be worthwhile to list!

general brush sources

  • CSP asset store
  • Devin Elle Kurtz: devin is a wonderful visdev and background artist, the brushes she makes is specifically made with photoshop, CSP, and procreate in mind, but alternatives are available for other programs on this page here! great for backgrounds!
